Is dōTERRA Vegan + Cruelty Free?

Many of you animal lovers might have asked yourself “Is dōTERRA vegan and cruelty-free?” Absolutely! dōTERRA does not conduct or condone animal testing under any circumstance.

This is their official statement about animal testing:
dōTERRA does not perform, contract, or advocate animal testing in the research or development of its products.”

Recently, there were some additional questions about whether dōTERRA has had to use animal testing to get into China. Their official statement about that is:

“We have been asked whether our business in China subjects us to its policy of requiring imported cosmetics to undergo animal testing in China. While dōTERRA complies with the laws of every country in which we operate, our products are not subject to that registration process. Specifically, dōTERRA’s essential oils need not be tested on animals because they are not imported as cosmetics, but rather are classified as aromatics or food additives. Also, dōTERRA locally manufactures its topical products, which exempts dōTERRA from China’s animal testing requirements for those items.”

dōTERRA Vegan-Friendly Product List

Most of our products are vegan. The following products are NOT considered vegan: GX Assist, Slim & Sassy Trim Shakes, IQ Mega, and the Hydrating Cream.*

The GX Assist uses a bovine gelatin. We use capsules containing an animal-based ingredient because the current technology for vegetable capsules had not allowed for oil-based products (they dissolve the capsules). We have found a new technology that will allow us to move away from these animal-based capsules, but the transition will take some time.

IQ Mega and xEO Mega both contain fish oils. The Slim & Sassy Trim Shakes contain milk and egg proteins. The Hydrating Cream also contains milk proteins.

*There are many different definitions of veganism and some people may choose to not consume insects or their byproducts. The a2z chewable supplements contain honey and the lip balm contains beeswax.
